Abdominal pain is the most common symptom reported in ambulatory clinics and emergency rooms. While the epidemiology of abdominal pain and gastrointestinal symptoms is well-documented in other ethnic groups, the pain characteristics of Punjabi Sikhs is not well-documented. The proportion of Punjabi Sikhs that seek care for abdominal pain is also unknown. The purpose of this study is to determine the epidemiology, severity, and healthcare-seeking behaviors of Sacramento-residing Punjabi Sikh individuals with current abdominal pain.
